Livelet Archaeological Park
An immersive lakeside experience to learn about the prehistoric period of the Neolithic and Bronze Age
Take a leap 6000 years back in time and discover how our early ancestors lived.
Situated just a stone’s throw from Revine Lago, the Parco del Livelet open-air museum offers visitors a fascinating immersive experience as they explore reconstructions of three stilted houses from the Neolithic, Copper and Bronze Ages. Inaugurated in 2007 and managed by the Treviso Tourist Board in conjunction with the Municipality of Revine Lago and the Tourist Office Consortium of Quartier del Piave, the Livelet Educational Archaeological Park was created and built to showcase findings unearthed at the nearby archaeological site at Colmaggiore – an area that has yielded many major finds and which is located on an isthmus between Lake Lago and Lake Santa Maria. The site represents the most important prehistoric wetland settlement yet discovered in Eastern Veneto.
Since 2010 Parco del Livelet has been part of the international EXARC network, an organisation which aims to bring together archaeological parks and European and non-European experts on ancient technology and archaeological teaching. The park comprises an open-air museum area, with reconstructions of stilted houses, a number of buildings used for teaching purposes, and facilities for visitors. The reconstructed village is located on the lakeside within a natural environment similar to the one in which the prehistoric stilted houses would once have stood. Behind it, there are several classrooms for educational activities, a bookshop, a playground and a picnic area equipped with barbecue facilities. A short nature trail winds through the park and is dotted with information panels put there to provide visitors with insights into the environments they’ll encounter while hiking around the lakes. Some of the teaching areas are located outdoors and are for archaeology workshops, while another area dedicated to traditional burials features two scale reconstructions of Bronze Age burial mounds.
The Park offers two routes, one with an archaeological focus providing visitors with insights into what daily life on the lakeside must have been like between 6000 and 3500 years ago in an interactive, engaging and scientifically accurate way, and a nature trail with walks around the lakes. All visits are conducted with a guide to guarantee the information provided is correct and to make the experience interactive, personalised and unique for each group, as well as ensuring a tailored tour suited to the age, interests and personal knowledge of participants.
