Through its technical department and cooperation with research institutes, the Consortium carries out important work to improve production methods in both the vineyard and winery, providing assistance- and training-based services. It supervises all the stages of production from planting to pruning, the selection of the date to begin harvesting and also control over vinification practices.
Apart from promoting progress in viticultural and winemaking techniques, the Consortium’s efforts are geared towards guaranteeing authenticity and protecting the consumer. For this reason, it has been entrusted with supervisory activities by the Ministry for Agricultural, Alimentary and Forestry Policies, a role that it performs under the control of and in collaboration with the Institute for the Prevention and Suppression of Fraud in the Food Sector. With the aim of reinforcing its protection activities, it founded in 2014, together with the other Consortia for Prosecco, a specific body called “Sistema Prosecco” for coordinating the protection of the various Prosecco Denominations in Italy and around the world. In order to guarantee authenticity and protection of the consumer, the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Denomination is subject to the control and certification activities of Valoritalia, a body recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture for such certification.
