The history of the winery dates back to 1924, when the Zago family purchased the vineyards and the house in which we still live today. Since then, five generations have followed one another, passing down the ancient culture of hillside viticulture.
We firmly believe in the great potential of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene terroir. Our focus is on seeking the viticultural harmony necessary to harvest grapes that truly express the vineyard in which they are born.
Vinification begins with grape selection on the sorting table and is carried out with the utmost respect for the raw material. The winery is built on three levels, and both grape reception and bottling take place exclusively by gravity. We also respect “the time of the wine,” carrying out bottling in the spring following the harvest year.
We have always interpreted our wines using only the technique of bottle refermentation for the prise de mousse.
We therefore produce three wines from three different lands, three crus:
Ca’ dei Zago Valdobbiadene DOCG, bottle-refermented, from San Pietro di Barbozza, from non-calcareous clay-sandy soils and a high presence of flint;
Mariarosa Valdobbiadene DOCG, bottle-refermented, from Saccol di Valdobbiadene, from calcareous-clay soils carved from sedimentary rock (molasse);
Valdobbiadene DOCG, Metodo Classico, from Bastia di Saccol from clay soils resting on sandstone-calcareous rock.
