“Life Atena” Project

Advanced Tractors with Electric implements for Agricultural green revolution
lifeatena

Feeding the world sustainably is one of the greatest challenges of our time. And the first step towards reducing agricultural emissions, is to change the way we farm.
The LifeAtena project aims to promote a change in mentality in this industry, through the electrification of farming machinery. How? Introducing a new, groundbreaking modular platform for the electrification of compact, isodiametric tractors that meet the needs of specialised grape and fruit farmers.

LifeAtena aims to introduce a new technology for farming machinery with a zero or near-zero environmental impact.
The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, oil leaks on the ground and noise pollution levels, thus protecting, restoring and improving the quality of the environment.

The great challenge consists in reaching all the set environmental objectives without compromising the technical performance, visual appeal and dimensions of the finished machine. The end result of this project will be the construction of LifeAtena prototypes: the first electrified green machines available for heroic viticulture and specialised agriculture.

A new milestone for LIFE ATENA project

The LIFE ATENA project marks a decisive step forward towards more sustainable viticulture with the launch of field tests conducted directly in the heroic vineyards of Conegliano Valdobbiadene.

The two next-generation tractor prototypes were officially presented during the final monitoring visit, held on Friday 11 April, in the presence of Agnese Roccato and Mario Lionetti, respectively Project Monitor and Project Officer for the project.

The trials involved field testing of a full hybrid model, capable of reducing CO₂ emissions by 30% compared to traditional machinery, and a full electric model, designed to completely eliminate direct emissions, achieving a 100% reduction.
Both prototypes were successfully tested in combination with five electrified tools – leaf remover, brush cutter, pre-pruner, sprayer, and cultivator – specifically developed to minimise the use of lubricating oils, thereby reducing the risk of environmental contamination during agricultural operations.

The field tests were carried out in the vineyards of three wineries representative of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG Consortium. Noise pollution was also monitored during the trials, with results showing a significant reduction in noise levels, benefiting both operators and the surrounding landscape.

The entire project journey will culminate on Thursday 3 July in Conegliano with the final event, hosted at CIRVE – the Interdepartmental Centre for Research in Viticulture and Enology.
The event will be open to technicians, businesses, researchers and industry professionals, and will offer a key opportunity to present the overall results of the project, observe the innovations in action, and share tangible prospects for increasingly efficient and environmentally sustainable agricultural mechanization.
